The sex-positive glossary: terms worth knowing at the door
Short and quotable: the terms that actually come up at sex-positive parties and workshops.
Sex-positive
An attitude that treats consensual sexuality in all its forms as normal and positive. A sex-positive party is a space where more is allowed than in everyday life, under stricter rules than everyday life: voluntariness is the condition for everything.
Consent
The active, voluntary agreement of everyone involved, before anything happens. The scene standard is enthusiastic consent: only a clear yes counts, silence or hesitation do not, and any yes can be withdrawn at any time.
Awareness team
Trained contact people provided by the organizer, present all night and recognizable by agreed signs such as fairy lights or glowing horns. They help with boundary violations, feeling unwell, or simply questions, no justification required.
SafeR space
Deliberately spelled with a capital R: organizers don't promise an absolutely safe space, but a safer one, with structures, rules and people actively producing safety. The term comes from awareness work.
Playroom / darkroom
Separate areas for sexual or kinky activity. They're clearly marked, often with their own rules such as a minimum number of people or no drinks. On the dancefloor the rule is: dance, don't play.
Play
The scene's umbrella term for consensual erotic or kinky interaction, from touch to a BDSM session. Calling it play is the point: voluntary, negotiated, endable at any moment.
Door policy
Curated selection at the entrance, checking outfit, attitude and group composition to protect the mix inside. A tough door in this scene isn't a bug, it's the mechanism that makes the room inside feel free.
Vibe check
A short conversation at the door or an advance questionnaire in which the organizer checks that you understand what you're signing up for and where you stand on the event's values.
Munch
A casual kink community meetup in everyday clothes at a neutral venue, usually a café or bar. No play, no dress code: the lowest-threshold way to meet people from the scene.
Newcomer-friendly
Our label for nights with an intro at the start, quiet zones and a crew prepared for first-timers. The counterpart is Experienced: nights that assume scene fluency.
Aftercare
The deliberate time after intense play: water, a blanket, talking, closeness. The scene treats aftercare as part of the session, not an optional extra.
FLINTA*
German-origin acronym covering women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people. Some parties or areas are FLINTA*-only to create protected spaces.
Dungeon monitor
Experienced supervisors in play areas, especially at BDSM events. They intervene when safety or consent is violated and are the first point of contact for incidents in the playroom.
